Rick Pinczuk

Hello from Kyiv! Carol and I are happy to give you another brief description of our work here in Kyiv, Ukraine. Once again we are delighted to report that our Picture of Rick performing a baptism Lord is blessing our work here far more abundantly than we could have ever imagined. We continue to have regular services on Sunday morning, Wednesday evening and special Bible Classes for our men and women.

During the past year our attendances have steadily increased even though some of our members have died from various illnesses. Currently we have about 80 who assemble regularly each Lord’s Day for worship and about 35 who are able to attend our mid-week services. Our congregation at Shevchenko includes all ages ranging from small children and teens to adults, young married couples and seniors. Over the past year the number of our teens and young adults have increased to about 16. We rejoice that of the 68 baptisms we have witnessed over the past ten years only 15 have fallen away or moved to other churches!

We were pleased earlier this year to have a new family come and work with us at Shevchenko sponsored by the Meadowlark Church of Christ in Fort Collins, Colorado. Ivan and Svitlana Scoleba and their children Ruslan and Anya came to intern with us for about six months before we agreed to have them work with us on a more long term basis. Among his many duties as Rick’s new associate, Ivan has begun a new “Prison Ministry” which enables us to evangelize more effectively behind prison walls all over Ukraine. We are looking forward to having another young preacher in Moscow interning with us for a year beginning in 2006.

We continue to distribute a great deal of Bible literature and humanitarian aid through the Slavic Evangelism Ministry in Kyiv. More than 70 “mini Church libraries” have been donated to Picture of rick with some medical supplieschurches, schools of preaching and other church-related organizations in Ukraine. A new Medical Center is being constructed in Ivanofrankivsk in western Ukraine alongside a new church facility which we hope to open early in the new year. Funds are presently being raised to furnish these two facilities with medical equipment and church furniture. Plans are underway to donate an endoscopies surgery unit (valued at $400,000.00) to the regional hospital in that same city. The “Dorcas Sewing Ministry” at Shevchenko continues to supply orphanages and hospitals with bedding, curtains and other specially requested humanitarian items.

A new developing activity of the Shevchenko congregation in Kyiv over the past year is focused upon the establishing of new congregations in Ukraine (Ivanofrankivsk in western Ukraine) as well as in the direct assistance we are providing to small churches struggling to survive (Kamianetz-Podilsk in western Ukraine, Bobrytsky north of Kyiv and the Vinohradar and Lisova churches in metro-Kyiv). We are also actively seeking ways to re-establish the church in the nearby cities of Irpin, Obukhova and Yahotin where brethren once used to meet. We are most fortunate to have five young men now at Shevchenko who are seriously thinking about preaching the Gospel full-time once they have matured in faith and knowledge.

Thank you, Hillsboro, for your faithful Picture of Rick's churchsupport of our work over these many years. We strongly encourage you to visit us in Kyiv to see first hand what God is doing through His people in this land that is riper for evangelism than ever before in its long history. To God be the glory!

With thanks and love,
