Recent Julsain Update by Randall Pardue 10/1/06

I had a very encouraging meeting with Julsain while in Ft Lauderdale. His radio program has put him in contact with several people for Bible studies. He has baptized 5 and is studying with several more. After merging the groups from Pomano and Ft Lauderdale they have 150 members in the church now. Attendance is even higher. Most of those were from the congregation where Edward Sugrine preaches (the man Julsain originally wanted to work with when he went to Ft Lauderdale). The work is progressing well and from all measurements I can see should continue. Randall Pardue

Background on Julsain

Hillsboro first came to know Julsain Blanc as a worker in the Lord’s vineyard in Haiti, Julsain’s native land. He was very helpful to us while we were in Haiti doing short-term mission work with our young people. Many Haitians believe in voodoo and worship in a primitive, crude way. Julsain’s wife and her family were from the Voodoo culture and when she became very ill her parents called for a witch doctor (Voodoo priest) to perform a ritual to make her well. When she progressively got worse the witch doctor blamed Julsain and his Christian religion for her condition and threatens to kill Julsain. The danger to this life and his children’s well-being was a very real and grave threat. Ultimately, with the help of Christian friends Julsain and his children were able to flee Haiti and come to this country to be with a sister and other relatives in Miami and Ft. Lauderdale area of the U.S. Julsain has begun working among the Haitian population in the Ft Lauderdale area.

What he’s doing now.

He has been meeting with a group of primarily Haitian people at the Pompano C of C building for some time and also teaches and preaches at the 6th St C of C building on Sunday afternoon and evening. He has also been teaching a group of denominational Haitians the bible and is trying to convince them of their error in interpreting scripture. He has made several converts in the time he has been in Ft Lauderdale and continues to influence other non Christians in a positive way. This is a new work for Hillsboro and we are still accessing its longterm value. Another trip to Ft Lauderdale will help us determine how to proceed.
