Young at Heart Meeting
- Monday night, July 12, was an extraordinary meeting for our “Young at Heart.” More than 90 attended the meeting, and as usual we enjoyed a sumptuous meal brought by our “Young at Heart” members. The program was initiated with a stirring rendition of God Bless America sung by our own Dawn Elledge. Afterward, Scott Price acknowledged our veterans by asking them to stand; the approximately 20 who attended gave us all a solemn reminder of the importance of our military men and women. Moments later Scott introduced our speaker, Lt. Gen. John Bradley. John held the audience’s full attention as he spoke of the War in Afghanistan. His thorough knowledge of the goals and objectives of this war, as well as the cultural and territorial obstacles that face our troops, helped us all have a better understanding of the situation in which our country is engaged. The slide presentation showed the conditions of this poverty-stricken nation and the terrain that must be negotiated as our troops work to bring peace to a people who have known only war for generations. Thanks to our hosts and hostesses: Will and Lacey Baxter, Krista Bowen, Dawn and Hugh Elledge, and Lee and Sue Richardson. They performed their duties perfectly and gave our seniors a sense of their love for them. Chris Bricker concluded the evening by leading us in America. It was a very informative and interesting time together.
- On Monday, August 9, we honored several of our young men, Andy Hackett, Charles McDaniel and Jamie Bacalan, who have recently returned from Iraq. We had the opportunity to hear firsthand about their experiences. It was another enlightening evening.
- Our next potluck meeting is scheduled for Monday, September 13. Don’t miss it!
