The Third Option | FAQs
- What is “The Third Option?” An educational program designed to provide constructive ways to improve marital relationships. Though not a Bible class per se, it is based on Biblical principles. It uses mentor couples, small group interaction, and fun exercises to teach content.
- What does “The Third Option” name mean? Many couples get to a point in their marriages where they consider only two options: Either divorce OR staying in a disappointing, frustrating, or less-than-satisfying marriage. This program provides a third option, or learning constructive and positive ways of relating and improving relationships.
- Is this marriage counseling? No. It is an education/enrichment experience, using mentor couples whose own marriages have “been to the brink” and come back. However, counseling services are available for couples that feel they need more.
- Can only one person in a couple attend? Yes. The program is based on the assumption that if one person in a relationship changes, it can (and will) change the relationship.
- When and where does it meet? Currently, the program meets in the Log Cabin on Wednesday evenings, 6:00-8:00 p.m. It meets for 14 consecutive weeks, then breaks for 2 weeks, and resumes again. The plan is for it to run throughout the year in this pattern.
- What if participants can’t attend all sessions? Topics change weekly. If a participant misses a topic, it will be presented in the next 14 week session.
- Is it necessary to enroll? Participants are encouraged to enroll in the class, and attend as many classes as possible. However, drop-ins are welcomed. If child care is needed, we do ask that participants register via the Hillsboro website at www.Hillsboro.org/marriage.
- Is there a charge? No. It is operated as a ministry of the Hillsboro Church of Christ Marriage and Family Ministry.
