Living It Dare #1

Our DARE for week #1 is rather simple, but it begins a journey of Living It through simple acts of kindness. Over the next twenty weeks we will be sharing one dare a week. As we go through these challenges they will become a bit more difficult, and I pray they will stretch us and require us to move into areas where we are not yet comfortable.
Remember, this is why it is being called a DARE! Dare by definition is to have enough courage to act. Therefore, I dare you to participate. I dare you to accomplish them all. I dare you to engage your family. I dare you to make a difference.
Jesus dared a rich young ruler to sell everything he had and give it to the poor. We know from the story that he did not take that dare. Have you ever wondered how his life turned out? Have you ever thought how it would have turned out had he taken the dare?
So, here it is, DARE #1. Write an encouraging note to a different person every day this week. Here is the kicker: four of the notes cannot be to anyone at Hillsboro. Also, none of the notes may be written to immediate family members. Sorry for the rules, but we want to make sure this pushes us a little beyond our comfort level each week. Have fun!
Jesus looked at him and loved him. “One thing you lack,” he said. “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” At this the man’s face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth (Mark 10:21-22).
Love you all,
James
