40-Day Challenge of Living It
Live Boldly
Can I interest you in a dare? Would you be willing to take a challenge? I would like to challenge you to a 20-week Living It Dare beginning on Friday, March 20. Each week I will share with you a specific dare. Your job is to complete the dare within the week. We will start out small and graduate to more difficult adventures. Let me encourage you to make this a family project, something everyone can do together. No matter your age, I believe the Living It Dare can be used by God to have great impact on our family here at Hillsboro, our neighbors, our friends, and loved ones.
Think for a moment about the twelve who were sent out by Jesus in Mark 6. Two by two they were sent – no bread, no bag, no money, no extra clothing – they just trusted in the words Jesus had spoken to them. What a dare! It required believing that God would take care of them. He made sure they were all fed and taken care of for the night, and He made sure they had no need when it came to finances.
Do you want to know what the Twelve did when they completed the dare? They were excited and gathered around Jesus and reported to him all they had done and taught. And then, because of God working through the apostles in their teaching and miracles, a crowd gathered. Everyone wanted to be a part of what they had to offer. No one wanted to leave the area, so Jesus performed a miracle by feeding them— 5,000 men, which didn’t include women and children.
None of us know the possible impact of accepting the challenge of the Living It Dare, but I would love to see the excitement after twenty weeks. I dare you to take the challenge.
Thank you, Hillsboro, for Living It.
Then Jesus went around teaching from village to village. Calling the Twelve to him, he sent them out two by two and gave them authority over evil spirits. These were his instructions: “Take nothing for the journey except a staff — no bread, no bag, no money in your belts. Wear sandals but not an extra tunic. Whenever you enter a house, stay there until you leave that town. And if any place will not welcome you or listen to you, shake the dust off your feet when you leave, as a testimony against them.” They went out and preached that people should repent. They drove out many demons and anointed many sick people with oil and healed them (Mark 6:6b-13).
Love you all,
James
