Hillsboro's past, present, and future.

Our Past

From its humble beginnings, the Hillsboro congregation assembled for its initial worship service on the first Sunday of October 1927, in the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Hitt and their daughters, Byrd & Eloise, with twenty-eight people in attendance. A new building was completed a few years later at the corner of Hillsboro Pike and Ashwood Avenue, where the congregation met until they outgrew that location and had to move in 1973 to the present location of Hillsboro and Tyne where God has blessed the growth of this congregation to over 700 members.

Hillsboro has been blessed with many wonderful ministers: J. P. Sanders, B. C. Goodpasture, Batsell Barrett Baxter, Tom Brown, Larry VanSteenberg, Mack Wayne Craig, Mark McInteer, and Marlin Connelly.

Our Present

James Waugh is presently the pulpit minister. The other members of the staff are Randall Pardue – Associate Minister, A. M. Burton – Associate Minister, John Conger – Marriage & Family Minister, Stan Lowery – Church Life Minister, and Joseph Mankin – Youth Minister.

Hillsboro is also blessed to have ten Godly elders who shepherd this body of believers: Jim Brownlee, Bruce Church, Steve Church, Phil Henry, Henry Huffard, Scott Price, Dan Rucker, Sid Smith, Steve Temple and Will Vance. Their strong leadership has been a hallmark of this congregation from its inception.

Strong leadership does not stop with the elders and ministerial staff. Hillsboro is blessed to have 52 deacons who serve this congregation in a variety of ways. Their leadership helps facilitate the continued growth with which we have been blessed.

Although these men serve as the leadership of this congregation, it is the many men and women who give of their time, talents and treasures that has blessed this congregation. We want to thank everyone for having the desire to serve God in this community, in this city, and in this world.

Our Future

Because God often chooses to work through people to accomplish His will, we are passionate about continuing our own growth toward maturity in Christ, thus preparing ourselves to be effective ambassadors for Him. We are resolved to be single-minded in spirit and purpose; to stand as an anchor of unity in a world of troubled waters.

Plans for our growth, and ultimately our outreach to the community and the world, center on the same areas of Jesus’ focus. As you search our site, you will see four areas where Hillsboro is actively engaged in God’s mission:

It is our prayer that Hillsboro will continue to be dedicated to excellence in every aspect of ministry and to being a church with fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ.
